Eden Lorraine Tosch
MSc., Registered Ayurveda Clinician (AAPNA)
I was drawn to the study of Ayurveda by my lifelong interests in natural wellness, a frustrated vision of human potential & a love of unifying systems of thought. Sitting at the feet of a senior teacher years ago in my first Ayurveda class I realized that I had found something that I could spend the rest of my life working with. Ayurveda’s breadth of understanding, concepts of inter-relatedness, efficacy, adaptability & demand for accountability continue to inspire me. The elegant balance of focus on the individual with collective good & classical thought with unorthodox practices & mundane practices with sublime intentions challenge me daily as I seek to inspire others in this endlessly interesting modality.
My formal training in Classical Indian Medicine has defined & refined the healing instincts I gained from growing up on a farm & inherited from my mother & grandmothers. The Back To The Land Movement that I grew up in surrounded me with healing practices as wide ranging & woo-woo as hands-on-healing, fruititarianism, iridology & as simple as raising your own herbs, meat & veggies. Microbiotic diets were de rigueur, as was a general, but educated, suspicion of authority & tradition.
Recent studies in mineral balancing brings my perspective full circle as I reconnect with modern science-based functional alternative practices that promise to evolve a holistic wisdom of wellness prioritizing lived experience, nourishment, relationships & energy.
Years working as a massage therapist taught me that the 5 (+) senses provide more information about well-being than statistics & theories. I have practiced yoga for over 20 years & my current practice is inspired by Iyengar, Scaravelli, Shadow, & Kundalini schools of thought. Travels through Europe, the Middle East & India fed my interest in cultural food-ways & regional concepts of culinary balance.
My way of practice is informed by undergraduate & graduate studies in Cultural Studies & Social Psychology & an abiding interest in spirituality, healing & social justice. But just as much so I am influenced by contemporary thinkers like Connor Habib, Rupert Sheldrake, Pilar Lesko, Daniel Schmachtenberger (gasp!), Dr. Stephen Porges, My socialist grandfather James Begley & many others. These are just top of mind as I write this.
I believe that all healing is emancipatory, cultivating physical nourishment through self-awareness, inter-connectedness & spiritual advancement.
